Phalaenopsis (fal-en-OP-sis)
This orchid is also known as the "moth orchid." They are popular and are easy to grow. Happy plants can continue to bloom for months. They can be grown under fluorescent lights. Many come in whites, pinks, purples, yellows, and reds.
- Grow them in bright shade like African Violets. They quickly burn in direct sun, but they do not want to be in the dark. Light should be bright enough to easily read a book.
- Give them regular water, warm temperatures, and regular fertilizer. Never water them with cold water. Do not let water remain on the leaves at night, or they may rot.
- Give slightly less water and fertilizer in winter.
- Repot every 2-3 years.
